Six tasters from Commercial Confidence.
Each one is a real piece of the programme: the idea, what to say, and an exercise to run with your team this week.
01Commercial conversations
The pause before the discount
When a buyer says "that's more than we expected", most people rush to fill the silence, and the fastest way to fill it is a discount. The objection is often a question, not a no.
"That's fair to flag. What are you comparing it to?"
Try this with your teamIn the next three pricing conversations, everyone waits three seconds before responding and asks one question before offering anything. Share what happened in your next team meeting.
In the full module: objection role-plays, a value-defence script bank and a manager observation guide.
02Asking for the commitment
Never leave without a next step
Meetings end politely and deals stall quietly. Confident people don't just hope for a next step, they ask for one, with a date attached.
"What would need to be true for us to move this forward by the 15th?"
Try this with your teamFor one week, every customer meeting ends with a specific, dated next step. Count how many meetings this happened in, before and after.
In the full module: commitment-question practice, a deal-stall diagnostic and live call reviews.
03Senior stakeholders
Challenge without the wobble
Capable people stay quiet in senior rooms because disagreeing feels risky. A respectful challenge has three parts: acknowledge their view, add your evidence, then ask a question.
"I can see why that's the plan. In our last two rollouts we saw X. How would we handle that here?"
Try this with your teamEach person writes one challenge they've been holding back, using the three parts, and practises it out loud with a colleague.
In the full module: senior-meeting simulations and a stakeholder influence map.
04Ownership and decisions
Decide or escalate?
Escalating feels safe, but it slows everyone down and teaches people not to trust their own judgement. Three questions settle most decisions.
Do I have the information I need? Is it reversible? Is it within my remit? Three yeses means decide.
Try this with your teamFor two weeks, everyone runs the three questions before escalating. Managers track how many escalations drop.
In the full module: decision-rights mapping for your team and a manager coaching guide.
05Customer conversations
Acknowledge, own, act
With a frustrated customer, the instinct is to over-apologise or pass them on. Both cost trust. Confident service follows three steps.
Acknowledge how they feel. Own what you can. Act, and tell them exactly what happens next and when.
Try this with your teamPick your three most common complaints. As a team, write what "acknowledge, own, act" sounds like for each.
In the full module: complaint de-escalation role-plays and an empowerment framework for frontline teams.
06Resilience under pressure
The evidence log
After a lost deal or a hard no, the brain replays the worst version on a loop. Confidence comes back faster when you collect evidence instead of verdicts.
What happened? What went well? What would I do differently? What did I survive?
Try this with your teamAfter the next setback, each person answers the four questions in writing within 24 hours, then shares one answer with the team.
In the full module: the NAME daily practice for teams and a rejection-recovery plan.
